I took this piece on Friday with model Orsolya Gábli. We were only supposed to be meeting for a chat, but somehow we ended up shooting together. I am really glad that we did because it gave me some time to experiment with some ideas I had. My original vision for this piece was of the model falling down and using the umbrella as a parachute (aka Mary Poppins), but the pose did not really fit. I was thinking what I could use to sit her on and I thought a pebble would be perfect and this picture was born.
I tried a few different setups – one with a birdcage on the ground and birds resting on the umbrella but this simpler version worked better for me.
I feel that I am just on the edge of exploring this new world of surreal art photography but already I am extremely happy with the results and I can’t wait to work on the next piece!
